TurnAround 12-Week Parent Assessment/Teaching Abstinence-based Day Programme
Turnaround is the first structured day programme of its kind providing an innovative, creative alternative to traditional Tier 4 residential rehabilitation or residential parenting assessment programmes. The programme offers a comprehensive and holistic approach to address the hidden harm risks, providing intensive support and guidance to parents seeking positive change for themselves and their families.
Programme Overview
Five key elements underpin the programme empowering and equip parents and children with essential tools and knowledge to create a healthier and more stable environment for themselves and their children.
-
Intensive Parenting Assessment/Teaching and Therapeutic Support: An integrated 5-day a week programme delivered over 12 weeks, incorporating the latest evidence based tools to assess parent capacity, deliver parent teaching alongside direct therapeutic support to address substance misuse/mental health. Our integrated approach removes the need for parents to repeat information to different agencies, while maximizing effectiveness.
-
Direct Counselling Interventions: We adopt an eclectic approach, offering CBT, psychotherapeutic approaches and brief solution focused therapies to help bring about positive change. We work alongside community mental health teams engaged with the parent to promote mental health stability.
-
Family Observation Reports: These offer invaluable insights surrounding parenting capacity strengths, areas for improvement. These take place weekly throughout the programme and act as a useful roadmap highlighting parental progress, child's wellbeing and future support needs.
-
Family Network/Family Group Conference: A family network or family group conference style meeting is convened prior to the ending to help the parent identify support needs for the future. It is also an opportunity to celebrate sucesses. This collaborative approach strengthens family bonds, laying the foundation for continued support and success beyond the programme.
-
Comprehensive Report and Aftercare Support: Regular progress review reports and a final capacity report is provided for each parent participant at the conclusion of the programme. After care support is also provided to parents to help with maintaining goals of abstinence in the long-term.
A three-tiered approach to parental assessment and recovery from substance misuse

-
Recovery phase
Helping parents to understand their own needs having developed abstinence. We introduce early relapse prevention strategies, increase awareness of immediate risk factors to the child/family, including specialist sessions on the impact of domestic abuse and poor parental mental health. Parents are supported in journaling/recording their early commitment to change through 1-1 and group support and challenge and their own self-reports. Parents present their life story at the end of the phase and receive feedback from the group.
-
Restart phase
Equipping the parents with tools and strategies to address past difficulties that have affected their lifestyle/parenting. The parent prepares a Parent lifecycle report during this stage which is presented to the group and feedback received. This is a useful tool in helping to assess parental insight and level of meaningful engagement and learning.
-
Renewal phase
During this phase, the parent is embedding skills and practising relapse prevention tools, establishing their own community support links to build resilience. This is a key milestone for the parent who will have a bespoke toolkit of resources to move forward independently. A family network meeting/FGC forms part of the end of this phase ensuring a plan is in place beyond the programme. A final parenting assessment report is produced within 2 weeks of the conclusion of the programme, with recommendations around after care/longer term planning.
